While working as a Motorcycle Mechanic I suffered an accident while on the job. I broke my leg and was covered by Gallagher Bassett Services through the company I worked for. I was in the hospital for 9 days, 4 days longer than I really should have because Gallagher Bassett would not respond to the hospital and they were unable to release me with the medical equipment needed. Finally, I was released and went home.
I called Gallagher Bassett regarding pay for missed work. They had very conveniently overlooked this so they sent me a check. Every check since then has always been late to where I have to call to remind them. Needless to say this has put me in a very bad financial situation with my debtors.
Every single one of my prescriptions has taken over three weeks to fill because Gallagher Bassett takes extra long to authorize them.
Just recently, I was cleared for Physical Therapy to begin walking. It has been a month now since the PT clinic has attempted to contact Gallagher Bassett. They have left message after message for 4 weeks. I had to contact Gallagher Bassett myself to see what the hold up was. I found out my adjuster Larry Lovato was no longer with the company. My new adjuster is Grace Baca. It appears that when Mr. Lovato left they forgot about me. They very conveniently misplaced all my documents and are now requiring that my health providers resend every document since my accident before they can authorize my PT.
I have never dealt with workers’ compensation prior but I can only hope it is not supposed to be this way.
Stay Away From Gallagher Bassett!

Ugh...I'm glad I came across this site. At least I have an idea of what I'm up against. I've had to deal with Grace too. She comes across as very lazy and she seems incapable of returning phone calls. She approved me for multiple MRIs but after the first one, she denied the rest with no explanation. I really wish I had her job though, because when I sit on my butt all day and do nothing, I have no pain.
Best of luck to all of you, both in your recoveries and in your dealings with GB.

For 2+ YEARS I have had to deal with GB. I feel for you, I really do. I wasn't authorized to go to the docs I should have, so by the time I finally threw a hissyfit, got a lawyer, and got to the RIGHT doc, 9 months had passed and my back surgery was not as successful as it could have been, had it been done sooner. EVEN NOW, after court... they are dragging their feet, butts and anything else they can. 5 months ago it was ordered to give me retraining. Guess who is still waiting for it.....?

I have had nothing but problems with GB. They keep losing paper work and the Doctors have faxed and refax the paperwork to them. I have had three deferent adjusters because they keep changing and I have asked, three times, in writing to have a supervisor contact but never received a call from one. They only paid me for half the time I was off work and never paid for travel to doctors and Hospital as they were required to.

valid reasons for denial of claims have to be provided to the injured workers, if not you need to go over the adjusters head and ask for a supervisor or manager...........

As an injured worker, you have certain rights, depending upon the workers' compensation laws in your state. Many states allow you to recover interest and penalties if your w/c claim is delayed without a good reason. If you feel you are getting the run-around, contact an attorney who practices workers' compensation law. They will usually take your case at no initial charge to you, and then only get paid if they can get a recovery.
