Gallagher Bassett - Bad faith handling of insurance claim
I rented a truck to move across country and the truck leaked, soaking my mattress set and a painting. I provided current quotes from the manufacturer and photos of the items damaged and the truck.
After four weeks of email exchanges and providing lengthy documentation, I was told that my painting "didn't seem damaged enough." It is a $129 painting with water damage but the claims investigator, Darla Hampton, stated that if she can't see the damage through a photo then its fine.
This goes against standard insurance practice as it doesn't account for future damage due to blistering, peeling, or rot. I was informed that my only recourse was to have the painting appraised by an art dealer (typically this cost +$250).
Reason of review: Poor customer service.
Monetary Loss: $129.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
Location: Eugene, Oregon
